THE MUT CENTRE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF GREEN TECHNOLOGIES (CDGT)

Incorporating the

Industrial Energy Efficiency Training and Resource (IEETR) Centre,

Mangosuthu Greening Initiative (MGI) and

the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM)  Centre.

The Centre for the Development of Green Technologies (CDGT) was approved as a research centre by the MUT Senate on 18th November 2014 under the directorship of Professor Senzo J. Malinga CEM, CMVPI, CEA.

The CDGT is an umbrella body for the MUT KZN Industrial Energy Efficiency Training and Resource Centre (IEETRC) that was established in 2012 and that operates under the auspices of the Technology Innovation Agency, the MUT Greening Initiative (MGI) that was established in 2010 initially with funding from Eskom’s Tertiary Education Support Programme (TESP) and the MUT KZN STEAM Centre that integrates the creative arts.

The mandate of the sub units (the IEETR Centre, the MGI and STEAM program) within the CDGT is to support, promote, and develop energy efficiency technologies, and training and skills transfer in the deployment of energy efficient solutions, whilst the primary focus of the MGI a unit within the CDGT is to develop green technology solutions aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change universally.

Vision: The CDGT will be a pre-eminent generator of sustainable green technology solutions and a developer of energy efficiency resources nationally that is attuned to the national development priorities.

Mission: To position MUT as a significant contributor in the Energy Management and Renewable Energy fields, and in STEAM Curriculum development. To integrate all aspects of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy into the MUT brand and carry that forward to the community, industry, local government, national government and international participation. The CDGT is committed to excellent services with an ability to compete academically, structurally and delivering projects with speed, accuracy and quality.
